5 Things You Can Do to Get out of Quarantine Depression by Katie Gorden

Everyone wants to be safe during the pandemic. However, quarantining can put a toll on a person’s psyche. It can be hard doing the same thing over and over again and try to find happiness in it. Depression can set in if you’re not careful. Fortunately, there is a list of things you can do to keep yourself from falling into the rut of depression.

You can start managing your life in a way that keeps you at peace. Here is a list of five things you can do while you’re in quarantine to combat depression if you’re experiencing it or prevent it if it hasn’t yet grabbed hold of you.

1. Get More Exercise

Exercise has been proven to be beneficial to people who do cardio for at least 20 minutes a session. Once your heart rate rises, your body will release chemicals such as serotonin, endorphins, and dopamine. All those chemicals have a different “feel good” effect that will help to keep depression at bay. Furthermore, your self-esteem and confidence will rise once you see the positive effects that exercise has on your body. It would be wise to exercise at least three times a week for a least 20 minutes each session.

2. Involve Yourself in Creative Arts

Creative arts such as music, drawing, and writing can help you immensely in your battle to fight depression. You might create your greatest work of art if you sit down and draw some pictures whenever you start to feel down. You might find that you have an excellent singing voice or a wonderful ability to create music. Maybe you can learn to play a musical instrument such as the piano or violin while you’re in quarantine. Try your hand at one of the arts and see what kind of self-esteem boost you get from it.

3. Go On a Streaming Binge

Distraction is another method you can use to combat depression. It might not be the best method, but it is an effective one. Getting into a good movie or streaming a heartfelt playlist might help you to take your mind off of being stuck in quarantine. If those two ideas don’t appeal to you, then you might want to consider reading a book. Pick up an old Harlequin romance novel and lose yourself in the story. You’ll forget about the cause of your depression by the time you’re done with the story.

4. Get a Makeover

One thing that can always boost a depressive mood is a positive change in the outward appearance. Take this time to do something that you’ve never done before. For example, you can visit a med spa Kansas City, KS (or wherever you’re from), and request a skin rejuvenation procedure. Maybe you want to visit a massage therapist and have someone give you a deep massage to release stress. Alternatively, you can have a procedure to change something on your body that you never liked. Breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, tummy tuck, and mommy makeovers are some ideas you can consider.

5. Try Meditation

If all else fails, you can try meditation to fight your depression or prevent it from developing. It’s easy to start meditating. You can find a quiet spot inside or outside of your home if you’ve never done it before. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Imagine something that would make you happy. It can be a happy place, a memorable happy event or a person who brought you joy. Focus on that as you inhale the positive energy and exhale the negative energy. You can use mediation mp3s or videos to help you calm yourself if you prefer to have some instruction and guidance. You’ll notice your mood slowly lifting to an enjoyable level.

Start Combating Depression Today

You don’t have to succumb to quarantine depression. The tips mentioned above are some excellent ones to follow. Choose the one that interests you the most and see if it helps you feel better. Try the others if you don’t have any success with the first idea. One way or another, you will leave this experience a happier and more grounded individual.
