This Better Sleep Full Body Scan meditation is for you if you have issues falling asleep or are struggling to improve the quality of your sleep.
The impact of lack of sleep on mental health
Research suggests that the relationship between sleep and mental health is complex. While lack of sleep has long been known to be a consequence of many psychiatric conditions, more recent views suggest that lack of sleep can also play a causal role in both the development and maintenance of different mental health problems (Scott AJ, Webb TL, Rowse G. Does improving sleep lead to better mental health?. A protocol for a meta-analytic review of randomised controlled trials. BMJ Open. 2017;7(9):e016873. doi:10.1136/bmjopen-2017-016873).
In other words, sleep problems can lead to changes in mental health, but mental health conditions can also worsen problems with sleep. Lack of sleep may trigger the onset of certain psychological conditions, although researchers are not completely certain of the underlying reasons for this.
Practically lack of sleep can cause in:
- Brain fog
- Mood swings
- Behaviour changes
- Stress
