My number 1 hack to bring myself back to a calm place when I feel stressed at work

Do you ever feel so stressed out by your work that you don’t know what you are supposed to do next? Well, this happens to me on a regular basis. But fortunately I have found a way to bring myself back to a calm and collected place within minutes. Here’s how to do it.

First you need to find a place where you won’t be disturbed. If you are in the office, you might want to try:

  • a prayer room
  • the changing room
  • a bathroom
  • a meeting room
  • an office
  • your car!

Then follow this easy breathing pattern until you feel relief:

  • breathe in for the count of 4
  • hold for the count of 4
  • breathe out for the count of 4
  • hold for the count of 4

Make sure that you breathing deeply from your stomach, rather than from your chest. Keep practising this pattern for as long as you need until you feel calm again.

The reason this is so powerful is because you have to focus on the instructions. While your brain is busy following and implementing the instructions, and slowing down your breath, there is less space for your stressed-out-thoughts. And you get instant relief 🙂
