The Reality That Does Always Count, No Matter What We Do By Joshua Clayton

“The map is not the territory” is a famous quote, but I would like to put a new spin on it in this article: The map inside of you counts more than the map outside of you on paper or computer Global Positioning System (GPS). When I think of reality in this way, I take nothing for granted. Indeed, reality comes down to our inner understanding, outer understanding is just an effect. Inner understanding is the biggest cause and reality of all.

So, think about this: Bob Dylan says we have to serve somebody, right? Well, I say that we have to make a choice and be somebody from within. It may be good, it may be evil and it may seem to be “on the fence in the middle, but we cannot avoid making a choice about what we want to be in reality.

Once, Henry Kissinger was quoted as being “Human Switzerland type neutrality”. Well, I honestly believe there is not any such thing as neutrality in any way, shape or form. I believe that everybody has a definition whether they want it or not from their inner self-image. I know, I am getting into some Maxwell Maltz territory there, but that is the reality of the situation: We all make a genuine choice as to who we are, who we become and why we become it. Anyone who does the “neutral Switzerland” pose is the most opinionated and choice making of all, even if it has an illusion of being “not a choice at all” in their minds.

Indeed, the global positioning system within us says, go somewhere or be nowhere. After all, nowhere can translate in an ironic way to “now here”, have you ever thought of that? My Uncle, William Eugene “Bill” Porter once pointed that fact out to me when I was about eight years old and he was reading an old novel by Michael Elder called “Nowhere On Earth” written in 1972 about the year 2173 which I also have read myself a few times. In fact, I can honestly say that novel sort of influenced this article. I mean take a stand or really die is not only becoming a reality, but it is something standard to universal human nature when you think about it. After all, “if you do not do it yourself, “they” will do it to you” as another “silly” saying goes.

Right now, I am thinking of “Tank Man” in China at 1989’s Tienamen Square demonstration massacre. You know, nobody remembers the officers or officials that were “in control of the situation”, but that protester still stands out in a lot of minds. That capitalizes my point: Reality without a definite definition is unreality, of course like there is not any genuine thing as neutrality.

I am a philosophical writer and objective thinker and honest action taker. I also work at a senior center in Gardena, California as my day job, among other things, but primarily I am a writer.
